On Tuesday, 2nd September, RCJ Advice: Citizens Advice & Law Centre celebrated the launch of a new impact report for its FLOWS project.
Established in 2018, Finding Legal Options for Women Survivors is a collaboration between RCJ Advice and Rights of Women.
FLOWS combines digital innovation with trauma-informed human support. It enables women experiencing domestic abuse to access life-saving legal protections quickly, safely, and with dignity.
The event was attended by Alex Davies-Jones MP, minister for victims and violence against women and girls, who told the audience:
"FLOWS is transforming access to justice and helping women take that crucial first step towards safety and freedom.”
Headline findings from the impact report show that over the past four years, 345,000 people nationwide have accessed FLOWS services and 60,000 survivors have received direct legal support.
Lord Justice Peter Jackson, Chair of RCJ Advice, said:
“What’s it like to live with domestic abuse? People who know tell us that you can never relax and switch off, because the next bad moment will come and you don’t know how bad it will be when it does. You can end up believing all the undermining and disrespect, and blaming yourself for being useless. You can become isolated from family and friends. The joy goes out of life.
"As a judge who has worked in family law for many years, it is important to me that our organisation gives such strong support to people in this frightening position.”
Women who have used the FLOWS service shared powerful testimonies at the event. One woman said:
"Tough times never last, your support gave us freedom. Please know what you’re doing is changing lives.”
