The former director of Suffolk Law Centre, Audrey Ludwig, has been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours List for services to legal aid in her role leading the Law Centre.
Ludwig founded Suffolk Law Centre in 2018 with the help of its sister organisation, Ipswich & Suffolk Council for Racial Equality (ISCRE). Ludwig then spent the next six years as director before retiring in 2024. The Law Centre was launched in a legal aid desert, providing the county of Suffolk and beyond with a vital new public service: lifelines in housing, family and discrimination law. Today, these services prevent homelessness, protect victims of domestic abuse, and support disabled people to flourish in the workplace.
Ludwig continues to support the Law Centre as a legal volunteer.
Audrey Ludwig said:
“This recognition reflects the efforts of a remarkable team at Suffolk Law Centre, my former colleagues at ISCRE and the support of a wider community who have shared in the vision and helped make it a reality. The issue of legal advice deserts remains a serious challenge, and access to justice—for everyone, not just those who can afford it—must be recognised as a national priority.”
Suffolk Law Centre said:
“We warmly congratulate Audrey on the recognition that this award provides. Audrey should be rightly proud that her efforts mean that Suffolk Law Centre could deliver specialist legal advice to almost 800 people last year who might not otherwise have been able to afford or access the help they needed to resolve their issues.”
