Law Centres and Legal Aid - What Trustees need to know
Legal aid is an important funder for Law Centres. It is easy to get bogged down in the operational detail of legal aid schemes and lose sight of the overall financial picture.
This session will enable trustees to identify the key issues they need to be aware of, the questions they should be asking and the monitoring information which they need.
- The post 2013 LASPO legal aid scheme – a brief over-view
- Financial eligibility and scope
- Controlled work and licensed work – what they are, how they are funded and paid for
- Solicitors Accounts Rules and legal aid, client account, office account and disbursements
- Requirements in the legal aid contract
- Legal aid income for Southwark Law Centre
- Monitoring, LAA Provider Activity Reports – what other reports do we need
Please note, only Law Centre staff and trustees should attend this training.
