Discrimination Training: Non-Employment Cases and the Equality Act

Full Day training on using the Equality Act in non-employment discrimination cases.

The morning will focus on the law itself, looking at services/functions and (post-16) education and how the provisions work (particularly disability discrimination - with caselaw update - looking at settled cases as well as those that have gone to court).

The afternoon part of the training is practical - identifying cases and appropriate routes for challenge (e.g. with public function cases, county court or jr); how to identify the types of discrimination to run with; what remedy; process in the county court; part 36 offers of settlement; mediation.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

The Trainer:

Catherine Casserley specialises in discrimination and equality, employment and human rights law. She has particular expertise in the Equality Act 2010 and its predecessor legislation. She returned to full-time practice at the Bar in October 2007 from a period as Senior Legal Adviser with the Disability Rights Commission ("DRC"). She is well known for her expert advisory and litigation work in non-employment discrimination, spanning retail, transport (see Paulley) sports (recently instructed in a case against a major national sports body), education and housing, and has been instructed in nearly all the reported cases in these areas. She has obtained injunctive relief in a number of discrimination cases, both services and education.

If a large waiting list develops we may run a webinar for those who cannot attend so please register your interest even if the bookings are full.
