Speakers:

John Horan - Cloisters 

John specialises in all kinds of anti-discrimination work and employment law.  He was the first barrister to receive guidance from the EAT about disabled people's rights before any court or tribunal. In 2016 John was listed by Power 100 as one of Britain’s most influential people with a disability. In 2015 John hosted the European Commission's Monitoring Conference in Brussels on the Rights of People with Disabilities and the Courts. 

John successfully challenged the state honour system in Trindad for fostering differences and not being in compliance with international law. He also successfully challenged the terms offered to part-time high court judges as discriminatory at Croydon Employment Tribunal.

John appears frequently for law centres, the FRU, ELAAS, Bar Pro Bono Unit and the Disability Law Association as well as well-known solicitors firms.

Ruaraidh Fitzpatrick - Cloisters

Prior to pupillage, Ruaraidh had a background in legal academics, lecturing in employment, equalities, and human rights law at the University of Middlesex in Dubai and tutoring in public and administrative law at the University of Glasgow.

Previously, Ruaraidh worked as an intern at the Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law as a researcher on the centre’s ‘Constitutional Crossroads’ paper and as a Campaign Fellow on the 2012 Obama presidential re-election campaign.

In his first six, Ruaraidh assisted in the preparation for the Grenfell Tower Inquiry and in complex employment and discrimination proceedings in the Employment Tribunal.

Martyn Mccleish - Cloisters

Martyn was called in 1997 and has practised in personal injury ever since. His personal injury case load covers the full variety of employers’ liability, public liability, and road traffic, cases of maximum severity, including spinal and psychiatric injury. 

Martyn joined Cloisters in 2006 and has since then developed a Claimant based clinical negligence practice. His work covers the full range of high value clinical negligence work including maximum severity cerebral palsy cases.

Martyn is recommended in the Legal 500 2011 in both clinical negligence and in personal injury.

Martyn is a contributor to the new edition of Charles Lewis’ book, Clinical Negligence, edited by Andrew Buchan, and wrote the chapters covering duty of care, breach of duty, and costs.

Martyn is a member of the Bar Council CFA Committee and the PIBA Executive Committee.

Claire Mccann - Cloisters 

Claire represents both claimants and defendants/respondents and is instructed by solicitors firms, in-house lawyers & HR professionals and directly via Public Access. She regularly advises NHS Trusts, financial institutions, retailers, airlines and FTSE 250 companies and other corporate clients as well as Trade Unions, local and central government and individual claimants.    

She has a particularly strong reputation for her equality work, including non-employment discrimination cases whether by way of judicial review proceedings in the Admin Court or claims in the High Court and County Court. She is also instructed in High Court employment-related litigation concerning restraint of trade and directors' duties.    

She has a strong advisory practice: she is regularly instructed by an airline to advise on complex employee relations issues (EG: age-based rules for pilots; and rostering requirements in respect of disabled cabin crew); and she has recently advised a large national charity on its liability in respect of holiday pay.    

Will Stone - Avon and Bristol Law Centre

Will is a solicitor at Avon and Bristol Law Centre specialising in Discrimination and Public Law. He has worked on many discrimination cases in both the employment tribunal and county court. 

 

Cancellation Policy

Payments will be refunded if the LCN is notified of the cancellation 7 clear days in advance of the training event. If cancellation is made within 7 days of the training event, the payment will not be refunded. Non - attenders will not be refunded.

On occasion, LCN may need to cancel a course due to extenuating circumstances. The decision to cancel a training course is at the discretion of the Director. All delegates will be notified by e-mail. LCN will refund the course fees or offer a place at an alternative training event.  LCN will not be liable for any costs incurred by an individual or organisation eg travel expenses, for a cancelled course.
