What is the Everyone is Equal Project?
The Everyone is Equal Project was a one-year European Commission funded project that took place between November 2008 and October 2009.
The project was funded under the Progress Towards Equality funding stream of the European Commission to raise awareness of discrimination amongst members of the public, so that they are better able to identify discrimination, what rights they have under discrimination legislation and where to go for information and advice.
40 awareness raising events were organised through local advice agencies who are taking part as Local Delivery Partners across the UK.

Project activities
Activities took place between April and September 2009 across the United Kingdom in geographical areas local to the LDPs. The activities focused on discrimination issues and subjects identified as relevant to the particular region.
Activities included a BEMIS and STUC Conference on Employment Rights, STUC House, Glasgow (Ethnic Minorities Law Centre), Access 4 Ur Future – Cardonald College, Glasgow (Ethnic Minorities Law Centre), Edinburgh Festival, Edinburgh (Ethnic Minorities Law Centre), NAIDEX Day – Birmingham (Chesterfield Law Centre), Visits to school leavers assemblies – Southampton (Southampton Advice and Representation Centre), TUC May Day Rally - New Square, Chesterfield (Chesterfield Law Centre) and the Deaf Festival – Action for Deafness, Leicester (Chesterfield Law Centre).
During June 2009, there were stalls at TUC conference, Southampton (Southampton Advice and Representation Centre), 3D Equality and Diversity Launch – Clay Cross, Derbyshire (Chesterfield Law Centre), T in the Park Music Festival (Ethnic Minorities Law Centre), Mitcham Carnival (South West London Law Centres), People’s Day, Croydon (South West London Law Centres), MELA, Glasgow (Ethnic Minorities Law Centre), Discrimination training event, Whitehaven CAB, Cumbria (Community Law Centre, Carlisle)
In July and August there were Information stalls at music festivals (Southampton Advice and Representation Centre), Caribbean Carnival – Forest Ground, Nottingham (Chesterfield Law Centre), Discrimination training event, Cumbria Multi Cultural Service, Barrow (Community Law Centre, Carlisle, Nottingham Pride – The Aboratum, Nottingham (Chesterfield Law Centre) and a half-day workshop on discrimination spotting and signposting (Southampton Advice and Representation Centre)
During Septermber there were University Fresher’s Fair stalls (Southampton Advice and Representation Centre), Discrimination training event, Carlisle CVS, Cumbria (Community Law Centre, Carlisle, Discrimination training event, Maryport CVS, Cumbria (Community Law Centre, Carlisle), Connexions Event: Skills Festival – Queen’s Park, Chesterfield (Chesterfield Law Centre), Connexions Event: Skills Festival – Pride Park, Derby (Chesterfield Law Centre, Connexions Event: Skills Festival – Pride Park, Derby (Chesterfield Law Centre) and finally in October an International Older People’s Rally, Coventry (Chesterfield Law Centre).
Awareness raising resources:
The project has commissioned several materials that could be used for awareness raising events such as posters, postcards, flyers, training on each strand of discrimination and information on how to conduct public legal education events. Please see the resources section on the right of this page.
