Sheffield Law Centre wins a Bedroom Tax appeal for a local family

Friday, April 12th 2013

Sheffield Law Centre has won an appeal against the threat of a 'spare room penalty' being imposed on a local family.

Only last year Sheffield Council moved the family to a larger property as one of their daughters, who is severely disabled, needed her own room. However, earlier this year the council required the family to pay the 'bedroom tax', claiming their children could share a bedroom - or move to a smaller property.

Douglas Johnson of Sheffield Law Centre helped the family successfully appeal the council's decision, and suggests that other families could benefit from this course of action.
