LCN joins call on Ministry of Justice not to proceed with legal aid proposals

Tuesday, May 28th 2013

The Law Centres Network has joined several legal advice organisations - Shelter, Young Legal Aid Lawyers, Legal Aid Practitioners Group and others - in a briefing condemning new proposals for further cuts to legal aid.

The proposals, outlined in the Ministry of Justice consultation titled 'Transforming Legal Aid: Delivering a more credible and efficient system' (click here for the microsite), include limiting legal aid for judicial review and cases with 'borderline' chances of success; and for imposing a residence test on people seeking legal aid.

The briefing, available below, shows how these proposals will affect the poorest people in society, specifically ones who are homeless or face imminent homelessness.
