LCF Co-chair Proposes Levy in Aid of Access to Justice

Paul im Thurn of Cumbria Law Centre suggested that a levy of £25 be added to solicitors' practising certificates to help fund the work of lawyers at nonprofit legal advice agencies.

The controversial proposal, which attracted some comment and discussion online, was conveyed by Jon Robins in a piece for the Guardian newspaper.

The Guardian also ran a five-day online poll about the levy proposal, which closed with 75% of voters coming out in favour of this form of supplementary funding.
