Today, 26th February, Hackney Community Law Centre has had the pleasure of welcoming Andrew Caplen, the president of the Law Society, which is the professional body for all solicitors in England and Wales.
Mr Caplen, who has been serving as president since summer 2014, has made access to justice a priority of his presidency. He has also led the launch of a public campaign for widening access to justice in the wake of cuts to legal aid.
Reflecting on his visit, Mr Caplen has said:
"People need advice from day one, not when they arrive at court with a bag full of papers. We need to concentrate on getting people advice right at the beginning of their problem. It is really special for me to come back to Hackney Community Law Centre as President of the Law Society. What HCLC are doing is so worthwhile, and I thoroughly support the Law Centre (and also Law Centres’) work. The difference HCLC is making to people’s lives is incredible."
