Cumbria Law Centre warns of worsening poverty in the North West

Tuesday, November 19th 2013

Veteran staff members at Cumbria Law Centre, based in Carlisle, have noted that poverty in the North West county is the worst that they have seen in twenty years.

Interviewed for the local News & Star, Pete Moran, the head of the Law Centre, has spoken of growing precariousness among low-income families and individuals. He attributed this to a combination of factors, from welfare reforms, through rising cost of living, to low wages.

Mr Moran highlighted that the Bedroom Tax is a particular problem in Cumbria as smaller properties are simply not available for tenants to downsize to.
