Working with Government
The LCF promotes Law Centres by showing how Law Centres can help defend people’s fundamental human rights and how they assist the Government in meeting their key objectives, such as helping to reduce child poverty and tackling social exclusion.
In November 2009, LCF co-hosted a high-level roundtable with the European Commission, the UK Ministry of Justice and the Swedish EU Presidency, to develop an agenda for the future regarding access to justice in the EU. Leaders agreed to principles to strengthen access to justice in the UK and across the EU. The UK Government and the European Commission carried these to a summit of all European Justice Ministers meeting three days later as the EU Treaty came into force. In November 2001, the LCF together with the DCA (now the Ministry of Justice) published, ’Legal and Advice Services:A Pathway out of Social Exclusion.doc‘ and in February 2004, they published, ’Legal and Advice Services:Pathway to Regeneration.pdf)’. A shorter briefing paper was also produced, ‘Law Centres – A Pathway to Social Inclusion’ by the LCF.
The Law Centres Federation encourages local government to support Law Centres. The work carried out in Law Centres helps to improve local public services and empower local people.
