- Law Awards of Scotland 2007
Recognition for Govan Law Centre in Glasgow was given when they received two awards at the Law Awards of Scotland dinner held on 16th September. The Law Centre was awarded the Chairman’s Award sponsored by the LexisNexis Visualfiles and Solicitor of the Year went to Mike Dailly, the Law Centre’s managing partner. - Not for Profit legal advice gets a boost in Advice Week

Migrant workers in Carlisle are being endangered by living four to a room and being exploited by their employers, according to Carlisle Law Centre which helps the city’s underprivileged. - Legal Services Commission unlawfully deny access to justice
Southwark Law Centre won a landmark case on 20th July when Mr Justice Collins ruled that the Legal Services Commission acted unlawfully in their interpretation of the phrase “rent payable” in assessing eligibility for legal aid under Regulation 24 of the Community Legal Service (Financial) Regulations 2000. - Hammersmith Council sued over Law Centre cuts
Three individuals who live or work in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham today issued judicial review proceedings in the High Court to stop the Council cutting the local Law Centre’s grant. The three are challenging a proposed 60% grant cut, and applying for a ‘fast track’ order for the case to be heard urgently. - Developing Capable Citizens: The Role of Public Legal Education
The Law Centres Federation welcomed the report of the Public Legal Education and Support (PLEAS) Task Force which was launched in London on 10th July. The LCF was a member of the Task Force and fully endorses the report's recommendations on the effectiveness of public legal education - Turn Back Jack !
As part of their continuing campaign against legal aid changes, Law Centres held open days across the country on 13th July to discuss with politicians and members of the public how the proposed reforms of legal aid will impact on local communities. - ‘Sponsoring Dependency or Investing in Social Capital’
Public Meeting held to defend legal advice and community services in Hammersmith and Fulham in London on 18th June. Guest speakers include Polly Toynbee, Andrew Slaughter MP, Nick Seddon, Cllr Harry Phibbs and John Fitzpatrick, chair of the LCF. The debate will be chaired by Clive Coleman of Radio 4’s Law In Action.
